Happy 40th Birthday Stephanie!

We recently threw a surprise birthday party for Steph's big 4-0. But there were enough hints throughout the month that should have given it away (see below). Fortunately, Steph did not make use of her keen analytical abilities and was surprised at Col. Bass' house by about 70 people. The premise was that Col Bass was throwing a party for the new boss and he was inviting a "few" people to welcome him to Israel. Steph had to cancel plans for a BBQ she was planning to hold on the same date. When she arrived outside the house she wondered why there were so many cars outside and loud music coming from the back of the house. Unfortunately, we don't have a photo of the shock on her face but she was sufficiently surprised. Thanks to all for keeping the secret and many thanks to friends and family around the world who called or sent emails for her birthday.

Who says the Government can keep a secret?

Clues that something big is happening on the 26th of July:

Everybody who had previously confirmed to attend your BBQ on the same date starts cancelling. Micah, "family commitments". Joel, "Reserve Duty". etc. Needless to say, Vic was on the phone after every invitation that Steph extended to tell them to cancel.

Five people wishing Steph "Happy Birthday" four weeks in advance. One included the following voice message, "Sorry I couldn't make your party last night! Happy Birthday!"

Large order of Beer and Wine with the name "Leung" written all over it in the Co-op. Steph: "What's this for?" Vic: "I don't know. Probably Col Bass' gig or something."

People walking around your house the night of the party because they didn't know that it was at a different venue. Steph from upstairs: "Who was downstairs?" Vic: "Don't they tell these guys they aren't supposed to sell stuff on Shabbat?"

The Big Thanks!

Roger and Candy for hosting the party at their house.

Areila and Eron, coordinating the invitation and guests list. Without your help, we would not have been able to get all the guests there on time.

Anat for providing a wonderful cake. Anat is the marketing manager for the David Intercontinental, a Four Star hotel conveniently located near the heart of Tel Aviv and Jaffa. For all your event and catering needs, contact Anat at

Judy M. Logistics coordinator extraordinaire. Helped get the goods delivered.

Cheryl K. Standby support and "go to" person.

Mikah C. What's an event without Music? Mikah set the tone before Steph even got there.

Arlyn P. Master caterer and event coordinator. Without her this party would never have happened.

The Toast

"Here's to Steph who turns 40 this year,

She's a wife, mother, and Intel Officer without peer,

Life's been a tough test,

But she's proven herself the best,

Ok, you can now drink your wine, whiskey or beer!"
